The League of Women Voters held a forum for the Seat 4 candidates on Oct 3rd. Here is the link to the video.
The other candidates in my race are Mike McCarthy and Larry Klein. There are clear policy differences as you will see if you watch the video.
Mike who decided to run because of space rent increases in the Plaza Del Ray mobile home park where he lives. Mike and I both agree that Sunnyvale needs to pass rent stabilization to protect the park tenants from unaffordable space rental increases. The mobile home parks are an important part of the affordable housing stock in Sunnyvale, but currently there is no rules which prevent the landlord from increasing rents as fast and has high as they choose to maximize their profits. Many of the park residents are on fixed income, are seniors who would have a difficult time moving, or both. Many of them bought their homes in the parks with plans to live out the rest of their lives in there and want to stay in Sunnyvale.
Larry won the special election in Aug so he is now the incumbent in Seat 4. Larry and I are both progressive democrats who agree on many issues, but I am pushing for different priorities and solutions. I am more aggressive in wanting to slow and reverse the decline in our quality of life being caused by rapid and poorly planned development. Larry is endorsed and has accepted donations from SunPac, the Sunnyvale business Political Action Committee, which includes many of the developers.
